Determination of body composition of children from skinfold measurements.

چکیده
Brook, C. G. D. (1971). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 46, 182. Determination of body composition of children from skinfold measurements. Total body water was measured in 23 children aged 1 to 11 years and correlated with estimates of lean body mass derived from measurements of skinfold thickness. The correlation coefficient was 0 * 98. Skinfold thickness can, therefore, be used to estimate lean body mass, and thus total body fat, in young children for whom other techniques for the measurement of body composition cannot easily be used.

Determination of body composition from skinfold thickness: a validation study.
Measurement of body composition is proving increasingly important in clinical nutrition and research. Skinfold thickness is a simple means of estimating body composition which is widely used in children, but there is little information on its validity. There has been a proliferation of equations for estimation of body composition from skinfolds, but some doubt as to their general applicability....
متن کاملMeasuring body composition and energy expenditure in children with severe neurologic impairment and intellectual disability.
BACKGROUND Accurate prediction equations for estimating body composition and total energy expenditure (TEE) in children with severe neurologic impairment and intellectual disability are currently lacking. OBJECTIVE The objective was to develop group-specific equations to predict body composition by using skinfold-thickness measurements and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and to predict...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Skinfold Thickness and Body Mass Index in Estimating Body Fat Percentage on Bowen University Students
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a weight-to-height ratio used as a quick and easy guide to obesity classification. BMI of 30 or greater is indicative of excess body fat and has been labelled as increasing the risk of degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Body fat percentage is also assessed through skinfold thickness measurement.. The aim of this study was to estimate the ...

AIMS To evaluate the effect of the administration of growth hormone on stature, body weight, and body composition in children aged between 4 and 10 years with Prader-Willi syndrome. METHODS Height, weight, and skinfold thickness were recorded in 25 children using standard anthropometric techniques at recruitment, and six months later, shortly before the start of daily subcutaneous injections ...
